UPDATE: My next big endeavor
Hey everyone!
It's been a long time since I've updated this blog, and there's been a lot that has been going on in my life since my last post. I've started a new relationship in the past year with an amazing woman, I've got a great job, I'm volunteering for the Columbus AMA and managing their blog content and I've also been preparing for Star Wars Celebration just to name a few things.
I've been meaning to update this blog and come back to it at some point but just never found the time...until now. I think part of it was that I was somewhat stuck on what type of content to do and how to present it in a way that didn't just make "just another movie blogger that writes reviews". That type of movie blogger can get stale quick and I didn't want to just provide that type of content.
So while I will continue to write reviews, they will be done in a slightly different way than normal. I'm going to try and keep them short, sweet and to the point since I know not everyone has the time or interest to read paragraph after paragraph these days. I'm also going to do some other types of film related content like discussions on themes in similar movies, my thoughts on certain trends, discussion of news related to film and I'm also going to share some photos of my favorite movie theaters in town and possibly interview some local film talent. I'd also like to do some series posts where I talk about a certain series or franchise or films that share similarities in how they handle certain subject matter or were from a certain time period.
With all that said, I am excited to announce the first two of many film-related endeavors I'll be covering on the blog this coming year. The first will be "Retrospective: 1990" where I talk about films released in 1990 and work my forward to 2017 when I started this blog. I chose 1990 since that was the year I was born and I've always wanted to go back and explore some films that came out that I've never seen and share my thoughts on them. These won't be reviews, just my stream of thought on films that were released that year.
The second comes from a blog I read the other day that said the average American adult went to the movies only five times in 2013. I tried to find some more recent or current statistics, but am having some difficulty in doing so. This was a shockingly low number for someone like me who loves going to the movies, but I guess with recent services like VOD or Netflix then there isn't much of a reason to journey from your house to the cinema. Not to mention factors like ticket prices, annoying audience members or standing in long lines. To me, going to the movies is an experience and for all the minor issues that come with it, I find it worthwhile. And I'm beyond grateful my girlfriend does to! We did meet at a movie theater after all.
So I've decided that I'm going to buck the trend and starting tomorrow, June 14th, 2018, I will make it my goal to see 100 movies in one year in the theater. These can be new releases, theatrical showings of classics, special events or even repeat viewings of movies I've already seen. In the case of the latter, I'll share how my thoughts may have changed after each viewing or if I've noticed anything different. After every film, I'll share a review here with a letter grading and my thoughts summed up in 120 characters or less.
If you guys have any ideas or topics you'd like me to cover, please let me know!
Until next time, this is Mr. Sims signing off!
