180 Reviews: Pirates of the Caribbean 3 & 4

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Too long, overstuffed and ultimately dissatisfying. Hated the Kraken being killed off-screen. Flawed but still entertaining. C+ Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides Unnecessary, forgettable and unworthy of the franchise. Only saved by Depp's performance and the action. Time to come to port? C-

Movie Review: Baywatch

Paramount Pictures Director: Seth Gordon Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Jon Bass,  Ilfenesh Hadera, Priyanka Chopra, Hannibal Buress, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Date Seen: Tuesday, May 23, 2017 Theater : Cinemark Polaris Overall Rating: C Adapting a television show into a movie is difficult, and it doesn't always work out for a number of reasons. For one thing, which characters do you use if there was a large cast? Will they adapt a particular storyline or create something new? What is the tone? Who do you cast and how will they stack up to the original? What references are you going to drop for fans of the show? Unfortunately, most of the time these gambles don't pay off and the movie just doesn't work. To name a few attempts at this, there have been Starsky and Hutch, The A-Team, Get Smart, Charlie's Angels, Power Rangers, 21 Jump Street , and The Addams Family . From that list alone there is a wide spectrum of qual...

Walt Disney Pictures Overly ambitious but fun, Johnny Depp still shines. Love intro to pirate lore, Davy Jones is a fantastic villain. Gets messy at end B+

180 Reviews: Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl

For some time now, I've been thinking about other content I can share or different ways in which I can present content here for you all. I decided that there will be times I will want to review older films leading up to new installments or iterations, like the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but I didn't want to just do a typical review. Walt Disney Pictures So instead, I will be creating something different. I present you with 180 Reviews, a series I will be doing that is reviewing movies in 180 characters or less. I'll be doing them once a day leading up to my review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales . Here is my first review on Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl . Curse of the Black Pearl: what action movies should be, classic Disney, great cast and lots of fun. Johnny Depp steals the show! A+ I'll be back with this series tomorrow with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men's Chest , not to be confused with the new mo...

Movies I love to watch over and over

Image
Disclaimer: this is an old blog post from an older blog that I've decided to re-post here and added two new movies since the original post that I love. Please enjoy. I read an article on  Buzzfeed  recently wherein they asked readers to submit movies they consider to be rewatchable. Movies that you can watch anytime or repeatedly and they're entertaining and fun no matter what you're doing or feeling. They hold onto their quality and you don't get sick of them. I have my favorite movies, but I never really considered what movies I find rewatchable. So that's why I made this list. There are several here that were on the Buzzfeed list, but I love them and find them heavily rewatchable anyway personally...so I threw them on this list. In no particular order, these are movies I feel are heavily rewatchable. 1.  Deadpool I listed this one on my list of June obessions and went into about what I love about it. But no matter how many times I watch this movie, I find it hi...

Alien: Covenant Film Review

Director: Ridley Scott 20th Century Fox Cast: Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Riby, James Franco Date Seen: Thursday, May 18th, 2017 Theater: Cinemark Polaris Overall Rating: B For as long as I can remember I've been a lover of science fiction, dating all the way back to my childhood when I would watch Terminator, Robocop and (of course) Star Wars . I've always loved how the genre, I'd argue more than any other, has some point to tell in the story. Whether that's through the theme or the plot, the characters or the overall message. The special effects may not always hold up, but those things do. As I entered my teens, I discovered Ridley Scott's film Alien and it has remained one of my all-time favorite movies since. The dark, claustrophobic atmosphere combined with amazing performances,...

Reviews coming!

Hey everyone! I'm Collin Sims, welcome all to my new blog! I've loved movies all my life and I wanted to share my passion with you all.    I decided to start this blog recently and it was a decision I put off for a long time. I have been hesitant to do this since it seems there's a large amount of people who write about movie reviews, but in the past few months I've really become a huge fan of Screen Junkies, Chris Stuckmann and The Flick Pick. Those guys have inspired me to start my own platform. As Stuckmann said (and I'm heavily paraphrasing here, so Chris please don't sue me if you read this), very few things are original and it's your personality....who you are...that makes it unique.  Hopefully that's true for me and my writing! If not, then I'll guess I'll have to try harder...which is part of my personality most of the time anyway. As most of you know or are aware of, summer is the big movie season for a lot of studios as it is wh...
